Milly Molly Beauty's Experience with the Skin & Beauty Training Centre
We sat down with Amanda from Milly Molly Beauty, a passionate entrepreneur and Skin & Beauty Training Centre alum. From mastering courses like Skin Needling and Dermaplaning at Skin & Beauty Training Centre, to navigating the challenges of launching her own startup, Amanda shares insights into her learning process and all things life, learning and beauty. Read more about our conversation below. ✨
- What course(s) did you study at Skin & Beauty Training Centre? How long did they take you to complete?
I did the in-person Skin Needling course, 6 Step Hydra-Micro, and dermaplaning and the Foundation Skin Knowledge online course. I did the in person courses over two days split over two weeks. I am still to complete the Foundation Skin Knowledge course but am not too far from completion!
- What was the learning and support process like at the Skin & Beauty Training Centre for you?
The learning and support process was great! Emily was there to answer every question I had and explained everything in detail.
- What has been the most challenging aspect of launching your start-up thus far?
Honestly, getting clients through the door. Having specialised in lashes and brows only for 7 years, and then introducing new treatments has been hard to navigate and market correctly. The new treatments are starting to gain traction with my clientele though and I am slowly starting to have at least one of each skin treatment booked per week.
- What led you to start your own business at such a young age?
I worked in a few salons after studying my certificate III and after seeing some girls go out on their own and having great work/life balance and flexibility I knew that was what I wanted while following my passion in helping women feel beautiful.
- What are your passions (besides being an entrepreneur), how do you like to spend your spare time?
I have a 2 and a half year old son, and I just want to be the best person I can be for him, I am forever doing everything I can to make sure I am the best role model for him. I would call that a passion. I like to spend my spare time with my son and my husband and our friends. We like to go camping and exploring new places.
- How do you achieve balance in your own life?
I have a toddler... is there such thing as balance???? No, I don't know actually. My husband and I just work as a team around each others work hours and free time, making sure we each have time to ourselves to switch off or do something we enjoy. Even if it is a 3 minute shower at 6am to start the day while the other one of us sort breakfast etc.
- What's your favourite treatment to perform and why?
I don't think I have one specific favourite. I love them all, lashes and brows give such instant results but skin treatments are a process and the results at the end are like winning a big prize. I love that all treatments make the person receiving them feel great!
- What are your goals for the next few years? Do you have an ultimate career ambition?
So anti-climatic and I guess a bit cheesy, but my goals for the next few years are to just be happy. Happy in myself, in my family and my surroundings. I would like to have some more kids and build my business to suit myself and my family. I would love to show my kids the world and do lots of travelling and have the best work/life balance possible. My ultimate career ambition would be to have a salon or two in a commercial space with a handful of employees and a positive work environment helping women everywhere look and feel their best!
